ABOUT THEORY FOUNDATIONS
THEORY FOUNDATIONS is a comprehensive music theory program designed for students who have learned to play a musical instrument or sing up to around Grade 3 standard. It assumes basic knowledge of the fundamentals of music theory and confidence in reading traditional notation in both the treble and bass clefs.
Created by Liz Giannopoulos, THEORY FOUNDATIONS content has been tried and tested as an interactive, online, group course culminating in outstanding results in ABRSM’s Grade 5 Theory exam. The material has been reformatted as a series of topic specific workbooks incorporating core information, activity sheets and topic tests. Answers are also included.
THEORY FOUNDATIONS is structured into three Units, each comprising seven Topics. The Units are progressive and each one builds on existing knowledge. The recommended pathway is to complete THEORY FOUNDATIONS Unit A, before moving onto Unit B, and finishing with Unit C. At the end of the THEORY FOUNDATIONS course, successful students will have covered the material required to sit ABRSM’s Grade 5 theory exam (new format 2020).
