In 2016, whilst on the renowned Piano Teacher’s Course working towards their CertPTC, Ruth met Gwen. They kept in contact over the proceeding years and shared many of their resources to help each other and other piano teachers.
After realising that there were plenty of resources out there, but that most of them required a monthly subscription to access, Ruth and Gwen wanted to collaborate in creating a more accessible and innovative music resource platform.
Out of that idea, My Music Resource was born.
Ruth is a qualified management accountant with 17 years of experience working for a multi-national confectionery company. She specialised in creating user-friendly models to help analyse and improve business performance.
In 2013, as a mother of two young children, Ruth decided on a career change. She had always been passionate about music and a keen pianist. Over the next few years she worked hard to become a qualified piano teacher and build a successful business.
The importance of using high quality, relevant teaching materials was clear from early on. There were plenty of excellent resources available online – blogs, teaching videos, games, worksheets – but access to these often involved paying a monthly subscription fee. Ruth decided to use her IT and artistic skills to create many of her own worksheets, educational games and trackers. Her creative resources have been used successfully by many other music teachers.
Gwen has 15 years of music teaching experience, specialising in secondary music classrooms, after school clubs and individual piano, flute and recorder lessons for all ages.
She has always loved music and studied music performance (flute and piano) at Lancaster University. After gaining a PGCE, she spent the next 10 years teaching in both schools and as a church Youth & Children’s worker.
Gwen is passionate about giving her students the best possible grounding in their instrument and is always on the hunt for informative and fun resources. She has created an abundance of teaching materials which have been used successfully in her own lessons and extensively by other music teachers and students.
