Listening and Composing with Flight of the Bumble Bee

Help your students to develop their listening skills and composition skills with this step by step half term’s worth of activities. Each activity will take about 10 minutes per lesson to introduce, with homework to do in between lessons.

The resource contains:

• A step by step weekly guide on how to use it.
• Posters to illustrate the weekly task
• Worksheets
• Portrait of the composer
• Matching game of facts about the composer

Fun activities promote:

• Creative thinking and interpretation of a piece of music
• Discovering facts about a composer through a picture/fact matching quiz
• Exploration of the storytelling aspect of many pieces
• Listening and describing how the music affects the listener and what might have achieved this in the music
• Exploration of elements and techniques that can be used to compose a piece in the same vein
• Using a composition ‘storyboard’ to plan and present their composition
• Performing an own composition
