Piano chord memorization can be a daunting process. In these piano chord worksheets I am going to show how I group chords together into patterns for easy memorization.

How To Use:

 
I like to memorize chords by the patterns they represent on the keys. What this means is thinking of chords in groups that share the same pattern. Group 1 would be the 3 major and 3 minor chords that only have white keys.
 
Start by memorizing pattern 1. Start with the majors and then do the minors. Play them until your hands know them. Or, if you prefer only memorize the major chords. You can then find the tonic minor chords (chords that start on the same note) by simply lowering the 3rd of the chord a half step. This can cut the memorization time in half but may make finding chords a longer process.
 
After each step use the flash cards to test your knowledge. Mix them up and place them with the keyboard reminder face down and the chord name face up!. Pick a card and play the chord. If you forget the chord turn over the card to check the placement on the keyboard.
 
Continue to do this through each pattern set. Take your time on each step until you are comfortable!
 
When you have done all the steps try using all the flashcards together for review. Check the chord on the back if you forget!
